These days, social media could very well be the first touch-point a potential customer has with your brand and we all know the power of making a good first impression.
More than that though, the numbers don’t lie and while everyone is using some facet of social media, one platform or another, few really get how to harness it effectively and direct it meaningfully.
As for those numbers:
- 3.8 billion social media users globally. Half the planet is at this party.
- Over 2/3rd of US adults are on Facebook. You want need to be communicating here.
- US social media use by generation: Millennials: 90.4%, Gen X: 77.5%, Baby Boomers: 48.2%. If your brand is targeting millennials, this is how you speak to them. But even if you’re catering to Baby Boomers, half of them are engaging online.
- People spend almost 3 hours per day on social platforms. Not only are your customers here, but they’re also here for a while!
- 89% of consumers say they will buy from a brand they follow on social media. If they trust you enough to follow you, better believe they’ll be buying what you’re selling.
- 84% will choose the brand they follow over a competitor. This is huge, even if a potential customer likes a competing product, they’ll still buy from you the vast majority of the time if you’ve captured them as a follower.
Social has big value and an even bigger potential impact. It allows your brand to create a meaningful connection and build and traffic in the new currency: trust.

First and foremost, consider social media a crucial, living extension of your brand. This is the digital incarnation of what you do, the online presence. If you’re a company that solely exists as a social media brand to begin with, we mean that literally.
